In a classic end of the match season, were Fgura placed in the middle of the table, faced Attard eager to win the three points to consolidate their second place and confirm the right to participate in the playoffs.

Fgura fielded an emergency team with an already dwindling squad having to do without Rodney Galea (abroad), Clayton Garzia (injured), Ivan Pace (injured) and Chantlo Felice who has just wed. Other players who started the campaign but did not continue the season in the club colours and therefore were not available for the last match include Kevin Cassar, Kevin Cachia, Eric Lia, Silvano Pace, Daniel Said and Mark Sammut (long term injury).

The coach took the opportunity to give debuts to other players in this final match; Darren Azzopardi made his first eleven start and Under 16 Lydon Vella made his first appearance in the club colours making also the starting lineup. Two other Under 16 players made their debut too coming in from the subs bench; Warren Bianco and Aaron Lagana’. In fact the final whistle saw our team fielding four seniors, four Under 19’s and 3 Under 16’s players.

Attard were the better outfit throughout the match but in the second half, aided also by 3-0 lead were contained. Lydon Vella was lively upfront and his running upfront caused a bit of a problem to the Attard rearguard. Attard took the lead with a splendid goal in the middle of the first half with a long distance shot and added another a couple of minutes, taking advantage of a defensive error. A minute from the break they added a third again capitalizing on our loose marking at the back. In the second half the run of play was more balanced though Attard having always the edge on our young inexperienced team. Fgura came close to reduce the score with a Vince Testaferrata attempt which was blocked by the keeper.
