Fgura United FC vs Ghaxaq F.C

Ghaxaq managed a 1-0 win over Fgura Utd on a windy Monday night. The only goal scored by prolific Bjorn Dalli late in the match meant that Fgura are falling behind table leaders.

Ghaxaq with the wind to their aid were the most dangerous from corner kicks with Fgura containing the pressure without too much difficulty and keeper Farrugia was rarely severely tested. On the other end Fgura came closest to forge ahead when Cachia rose high to meet a corner kick but headed inches over.

In the second half the tempo of the match improved with Fgura looking to take the lead, however the first clear opportunity was created by Ghaxaq whose forward solo run created havoc in our defense with his shot hitting the top right corner. Fgura had some good open chances of their own but the final shots lacked the desired sting. Galea’s shot was saved by Celeste, and Garzia’s header went wide. Ghaxaq were now operating on the counter and in one of their late attempts, Dalli capitalized on a defensive blunder, dribbled past a couple of defenders and our goalkeeper and scored from an acute angle. A dejected Fgura team left the pitch empty handed.
