Fgura United registered their first win in three outings in this league campaign when beating Mdina Knights 2-0 who prior to this match had a 100% record. The match was an entertaining one. The Knights, high on moral following their two 4-0 wins, and with a team clustered with young and athletic players are an improved outfit from last year but Fgura with some positional changes and a couple of notable faces making their return after missing the match against Zejtun gave a solid display and countered the aggressiveness of the opponents with calm defending. Skipper Rainier Farrugia was alert as ever and veteran Patrick Muscat mastered the defense with authority. Kevin Cachia’s marking was impeccable and Shantlo Felice’ s display was one of his best ever. Young Jason Gauci in the unusual left back role was up to his normal standard. In midfield Daniel Said, experienced Vincent Testaferrata and Clayton Garzia’ work rate was outstanding with Rodney Galea assigned a defensive role in midfield. Up front Mark and Clint Ellul combined well with the latter coming off just after half time substituted by Christian Bordieri. Ivan Cassar and Eric Lia came in late in the game for M.Ellul and Garzia respectively.

Mdina were the most threatening from free kicks and the best save of Rainier Farrugia in open play, came late in the game when diving to his right to divert into a corner an insidious shot. Fgura took the lead in the first half when a Garzia shot hit the crossbar and from the rebound Clint Ellul opened the account for this season. The 2-0 came late in the game when a good collective mood was concluded by a fierce shot by Clayton Garzia
