In Saturday’s final match of the campaign, Fgura United lost 1-0 to Gudja United. Fgura United could only field 12 players as several players had to miss the match as they had to sit for their exams or were dropped because of other commitments.

Our two brave goalkeepers played a half time in goal each and the other half played as outfield players and came out as being the best players on the pitch in either role. In fact after an encouraging start, Gudja took control of the match and started putting our team under continuous pressure, the fact that they scored one goal in the whole 80 minutes is to be attributed to the lack of precision up front, sheer misfortune and the good standard of our goalkeepers.

In the second half, with some positional changes the team fared better but still Gudja created the best chances and Bianco in goal saved point blank shots to keep the minimum scoreline. Towards the end Fgura made a reaction and came close to salvage the match with efforts from Bonnici.

This match brought to end the agonistic 2007/08 season. After an encouraging start to the season, the team went down the table after some unexpected results to end up in 9th place out of 19 teams. However the team always gave a good account of itself, being a solid opposition to all teams, even with the ones who had dominated the section.
