In a tight match where Mgarr had the slightest edge on Fgura managed to obtain all three points thanks to a winner scored in the first half.

Fgura fielded an experimental side as 5 regular players were not available or forming part of the starting eleven. In fact only 3 players called for this match will not be eligible for this category in the coming season.

Fgura started to play with the wind blowing at their backs, but Mgarr’s stronger and more athletic outfit showed the best ideas. In fact Mgarr hit the upright with a thunderous shot and scored the decisive shot when our defense failed to clear in time. The game was keenly contested but ably controlled by experienced referee Sammy Attard.  Both sets of players tried their utmost to find the net but the respective defenses dominated without going through too much hassle. Kris Abela was insurmountable in the heart of our defense with strong challenges and perfectly timed tackles. Skipper Saffrett dictated our play in midfield.

In the second half, Mgarr lost much of their precision as the wind seemed to handicap them instead of giving them the extra advantage, however Fgura rarely severely tested the opposing keeper. Some ten minutes from time, Mgarr were reduced to ten men after a reckless tackle on Keith Smart. Fgura tried to salvage the match but the back was becoming exposed to fast breaks. Inspite of this the result stayed unaltered till the end.
