The U/19s surpassed the first hurdle of the Youth KO B Competition beating Gzira U from Section D winning by a lone goal scored early in the match by Bordieri. Fgura dominated the first half but lacked precision in their final pass or at their attempts at goal. Bordieri scored after some good footwork and a shot with his left foot. The match continued with Fgura dominating territorially and went close to adding a second when Butterworth’s effort hit the upright. Bianco was almost inoperative in the first half.

However the second half saw a good reaction from Gzira who despite their will to salvage the game found a defensive wall formed by Azzopardi, Sammut and Mangion which did not bulge an inch. Cassar entered the fray in the middle of the second period and Fgura started to operate with swift counter breaks but again the passing and the conclusions were still erratic. Gzira had an appeal for a penalty late in the game turned down by the authoritative referee Saliba and minutes later Bianco came to the team’s rescue with a fine block off a close distance shot.
