As the final score line indicates this was an entertaining match. M’Xlokk with promotion aspirations faced a Fgura side who still believe in saving their Section C status. Fgura had key players Thomas Butterworth, Franklin Seisun and Mark Sammut missing for various reasons and coach Farrugia just managed to field eleven players for this match.

Under 16 forward Lydon Vella opened the score when managed to shrug off his direct opponent’s challenge and shoot past the goalkeeper the ball hitting the upright on its way in. M’Xlok equalized when a long distance shot bounced awkwardly in front of keeper Bianco who looked that he could make the save with the ball somehow ending behind his back.

In the second half M’Xlokk took the lead with another shot from distance with the keeper failing to punch over the crossbar, but Fgura equalized soon after when a Desira shot was blocked with the ball going to Mark Cassar who happened to be in the right spot at the right time to shoot home. M’Xlokk again took the lead when our defense failed to clear away the danger but again United drew level. It was Vella who slipped past his defender but was grounded by tackle from behind in the penalty area. From the eleven meters, Bordieri converted.

However the draw was not to be as late in the game, a good cross from the left was met and headed home in style by the M’Xlokk player who anticipated Azzopardi in the process. The final goal was scored fro the 11-metres after Bianco fouled an onrushing opponent towards goal.
