The Under 19’s succumbed to a 3-1 loss to Zurrieq in an entertaining match played on a Saturday afternoon at Ghaxaq. Zurrieq showed the better technical abilities but Fgura countered with grit and determination but this did not help tilt the balance in our favour.

Zurrieq took the lead when a fine shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced beyond the fatal line. The score was doubled minutes before halftime when Zurrieq’s best player on the pitch was allowed to progress unobstructed with the defence failing to close on him, thus he was given the opportunity to strike the ball in the top right corner.

In the second half Fgura reduced the arrears when Seisun was held and pulled in the penalty area and Sammut converted the penalty. In the protests that followed the referee’s decision, Zurrieq were reduced to ten men. Fgura tried to salvage the match putting more pressure on the opponent’s defence but inevitably leaving some open spaces at the back. In fact in one of these counters Zurrieq sealed the issue by netting the third goal.
