Fgura United FC is in mourning after the passing away of Joseph Farrugia. Joseph better known amongst friends as is-Sonny Boy, passed away on the 7th of September 2009 at the venerable age of eighty years.

 

He was one of the driving forces in the early years of the football club and served as President of the club in Season 1974/75 and again presided for a longer spell between 1976 and 1983. He was one of the mentors behind the building of the club's ground at Triq Valperga in the early seventies and the acquiring of the previous club house at Triq l-Isponsun.

 

Incidentally, two days on his passing away the Club's officials signed the contract on temporary emphaytius for 49 years with the local authorities on the Valperga street facilities which will be overhauled in the near future and converted in a modern footballing complex. Such a project could only materialize thanks to the initiative taken by Mr. Farrugia et al in the early seventies. His daughter, Ms. Rita Law, a former Member of Parliament, is also an Honorary President of the Club.
