Fgura Utd. vs Pembroke 1-1 Posted on Thursday 19th November 2009 The first goal and positive result in a competitive match this season materialized in the 1-1 draw against Pembroke A. Frankly we deserved more than the point we earned with a display full of character after going a goal down in the early stages of the match.
Pembroke had a better start and took the lead inside the fifteenth minute when converting a direct freekick beating Lia who was making his seasonal debut in goal. Fgura’s reaction was immediate and started creating a number of chances down Calvagna’s right flank. Matthew Spiteri had a couple of chances were he could have equalized.
The second half followed the same pattern, with the team creating more chances through Daniel Said’s shots and runs by Matthew Spiteri. Fgura deservedly obtained their goal when Pisani switched to Galea on the left who slotted the ball past the beaten goalkeeper. Fgura squandered a golden opportunity when from an indirect free kick inside the box, Ellul laid the ball for Pisani who shot wide. In the final minutes the game continued to be an open affair with both sets of players trying to get the winning goal, giving less importance to their defensive duties with Lia coming to the rescue saving with difficulty a goal-mouth scramble.
