Luck seems not to be on our side this season! A case in point is yesterday’s match vs Luqa SA were we were defeated by a single goal in a match we have dominated for long stretches and were we squandered a number of good open scoring chances.

 

Luqa took the initiative in the first minutes and Lia was tempted by two shots from player coach Tirchett. From then on with the wind behind our back we took control of things and started creating scoring chances one after the other.

 

Azzopardi Busuttil’ drive thumped the cross bar, while Spiteri on two separate occasions failed to find the net, first when he shot inches wide and the other when his try was blocked on the keeper, both chances with only the keeper to beat.

 

The half continued to follow this pattern and amongst other occasions Pisani and Said drives went agonizingly whiskers wide. In the second half Luqa again started on the offence but Fgura, despite playing against the wind looked likely the team which was going to find the net. Spiteri again was unlucky not to open the score when after rounding the keeper, shot with his weak left foot and the ball was cleared off the line.

 

Luqa scored against the run of play when Lia misjudged a freekick and did not connect the ball as he would have liked with the ball going to Tirchett who headed home from close range. Fgura tried hard to get the well deserved equalizer and were again unlucky when Galea’s place header hit the upright with the goalkeeper completely beaten.
