Under19:Fgura Utd. vs Kalkara 5-2

Posted on Sunday 29th November 2009

An impeccable first half display paved the way to a 5-2 win over neighbours Kalkara.

Fgura took command of the situation and opened the score inside the fifth minute when Rene Zahra worked a fine ball down the right flank and crossed for Pace to head home from close range. Skipper Vella Made it 2-0 soon after when after making room for himself in the box slotted past the onrushing keeper despite being in an acute position. Vella made it 3-0 towards the mid hour mark. He could have added more but was thwarted by the keeper on a couple of occassions.

The relaxed mood with which we started the second period was going to cost us dearly. Kalkara desparetly fought to claw back into the match and very nearly did so. First they were unlucky to hit the woodwork in a confused attack with the ball finally cleared to safety but soon after reduced the arrears when their player scored undisturbed on the second post after collecting a cross from the left. The score line became 3-2 when in a goal mouth frenzy Lagana cleared the ball on team mate Matthew Zahra to concede an own goal.

But the Fgura lads came back to their senses and opened again a two goal advantage when substitue Lia turned in a Briffa corner. The latter player was very unlucky not to etch his name on the score sheet when his fine shot hit the woodwork. The final goal was scored by Vella who sprinted with the ball past a square defense and got his personal hat trick.
