U17: Fgura Utd. vs Marsa 0-1 Posted on Monday 14th December 2009 Marsa did not repeat the 7-1 thrashing of the first round but still managed to bag all three points to secure the leadership of the section.
Both teams missed some regular players. Gabriele Scanu made his debut in Fgura's colours. Our keeper Buttigieg was the man of the match when he carried out his duties with the calmness of a veteran. He distinguished himself with some good saves and impeccable positional play.
Our players questioned some of the decisions taken by referee who in fifty fifty situations seemed to favour Marsa. Fgura took the match by storm and had two good chances in the opening minutes, in one of these chances Bongailas was bundled over by the keeper in the penalty area but the referee played on.
With Azzopardi and RuebenButtigieg marking close their most dangerous players and Psaila patrolling close behind, Marsa attempts at goal where being controlled but still they had their chance which either were saved or concluded wide. But minutes from the break Marsa opened the score witha great solo run from their centre forward who dribbled past three players in the process. Keeper Buttigieg clumsily conceded a penalty minutes later but he avenged his earlier mistake saving the penalty.
In the second half Fgura had a good chance to even the score when Marsa keeper failed to block a dangerous freekick with Bongailas pouncing on the loose ball but the keeper somehow managed to claim the ball. From then on Marsa exerted more pressure to try to get their second with Fgura defending and trying to break but the score remained unchanged. Towards the end the referee resolved an incident between two players by only cautioning the Marsa player and sending off our Bongailas. This led to nervous exchange of views between the two sets of players, club and game officials.
