BOVIII:Fgura utd. vs Kalkara 4-1 Posted on Tuesday 26th January 2010 Fgura registered a 3rd positive result on the trot beating neighbours and bottom of the table Kalkara to the tune of 4-1. Thanks to this win we have overtook Pembroke A on goal difference and opened a 5 point gap with Kalkara.
Fgura still having to do without injured V.Testaferrata and Calvagna also had Drago missing out serving suspension. The match had many firsts for our colours; Bordieri making the starting lineup for the first time this season, Lagana’ making his seasonal debut and Ludwig Bonnici notching his first ever appearance in the senior squad coming up as a substitute late in the match. Kalkara opened up strongly but their attempts were well controlled. Fgura took the lead through an Ivan Cassar insidious in swinger from a direct freekick which deceived friends and foes with the ball ending its trajectory in goal. Azzopardi Busuttil scored a magnificent goal when his curling shot gave the keeper no chance as it sailed to the top corner of the goal. Melvin Pisani was the author of a solo goal rounding the keeper to deposit in an unguarded goal. In the second half, Kalkara with the wind behind their backs started in the right mood and were unlucky to hit the upright in the goalmouth scramble. Fgura made it 4-0 when hard working Said’s shot thumped the lower part of the crossbar. Kalkara scored their consolation goal from a corner kick. The match was filled with more goal mouth action with Spiteri, Azzopardi Busuttil and substitute Vella coming very near to add more goals to our tally.
