Fgura Utd. vs Sirens 0-4

Posted on Sunday 6th February 2010

Promotion contenders Sirens put on a pragmatic display to dispose off a Fgura side who despite their individual technical abilities could not severly test the seasiders keeper. No wonder that Sirens conceded only three goals in their nine league matches.

To be honest, inept refereeing again played an important role on the outcome of the final scoreline. Fgura shared much of the run of play but could not respond to the fire power of our adversaries. Despite having more of the ball possession, open scoring chances were not in abundance.

Sirens took the lead when Bianco was surprised by a fierce shot to the roof of the net midway through the first half and Sirens doubled the score line when Bianco fisted away the danger but a centreforward collided with our goalie who stayed down on the ground, and Sirens pouncing on the loose ball and shot in the net, with Bianco still on the ground and the referee ruling the goal as a valid one.

In the second period the match continued on the same pattern, Sirens adding another fifteen minutes from time. Substitute Bonnici came in for Bianco and was soon tested when he punched on the feet of a Sirens forward, who in a very dubious position and therefore literally undisturbed netted the fourth and final goal much to the bewilderment of everyone this goal was also allowed.
