Under 17 Fgura utd. vs St.George's Posted on Tuesday 09th March In a match played in adverse conditions, Fgura won this match taking advantage of the fact that our opponents had their team decimated by the referee late in the match. Fgura were the better team for long periods in the match and had to pass some anxious moments because they failed to capitalize the numerous scoring chances created. In the first minutes Camilleri twice and Scanu went very close to finding the net. Vassallo and Mizzi had their chances too. But the clearest of chances fell to Matthew Grech, who after slaloming past defenders in the box, his shot at goal hit the upright. St. Georges had their best moments in the opening minutes of the second period with keeper Buttigieg having to turn to corner two insidious shots. Guarracino came to our rescue clearing off the line in another attack. Fgura regained control and started to build up dangerous forays, with the Saints keeper saving almost everything which was being thrown at him by Scanu, Mizzi, Guarracino and Vassallo. Ten minutes from time Scanu broke away from his defender but was floored from behind just as he was entering the penalty area. The referee showed the first of three red cards to the Saints skipper and captain. A few minutes later, Fgura won a throw in, Vassallo worked his way down the byline and laid the ball back to Guarracino who found the back of the net. The throw in was heavily contested, leading the referee to show the second red card to another Bormla player. In the dying seconds of the match a third player in the blue strip was given marching orders for comments addressed to the referee.
