Fgura Utd. vs Sta Lucia 0-2

Posted on Friday 04 September 2009

The Senior Team made its competitive debut in a Group 6 match from the KO Competition loosing 2-0 against Santa Lucia in a match they dominated for long spells. However the team failed to convert the chances created and were lethally punished by their opponents.

Santa Lucia scored their two goals in the first half while our lads squandered some easy chances. Player coach Brian Testaferrata fielded the following lineup. Renald Attard in goal, making a comeback after a year absence. Ivan Pace and Ivan Cassar at right and left back, the latter too returning after a one year absence. Testaferatta and his brother Vince playing in the central defensive roles. Daniel Said and new signing on loan from Vittoriosa S, Mark Drago in the engine room flanked by Rodney Galea and Claudio Pace. Upfront played Christian Bordieri and Lydon Vella. We sorely missed the contribution of injured players Clint Ellul and the other new signing Carl Calvagna (recruited on loan from B’Kara) who were absent due to injuries.

The most clear of chances created by our team in the first period were a when Bordieri headed over the bar from an ideal position and when Rodney Galea tried to run around the keeper by lobbing the ball over him but the outstretched arms of the extreme defender foiled his attempt.

In the second half Rodney Galea was sent off for tripping an opponent. It seemed a harsh decision. Nevertheless despite playing with a man less Fgura continued pressing and were even awarded a penalty for a handling offence. Ivan Cassar’s feeble and central shot was saved by the keeper who instants later was again severely tested by Brian Testaferrata. Late in the game Jesmond Lia, Felix Galea and Aaron Lagana’ entered the fray. In the dying seconds of the match Christian Bordieri had to leave the field of play after twisting his ankle.

Our next match is scheduled for Tuesday 8th September.
