The 11th edition of the preseason tournament kicked off this afternoon with two matches from Group A.

 

MFA new comers Swieqi United held Marsa to a 1-1 draw in the inaugural match. Swieqi took the lead against run of play on the 17th minute when Brian Grech capitalized on a defensive mistaketo score from close range. Swieqi gained confidence and shared exchanges with their reputable opponents. Marsa were denied by the woodwork but managed to drew level just before the break thanks to a direct free kick taken by Kevin Xerri. 

 

The second half continued on the same pattern with Swieqi creating the best chance late in the match when a John Debono header thumped the cross bar. Both teams were reduced to ten men when in the course of the second half Philip Chircop of Marsa and later Steve Hyzler of Swieqi were given the marching orders by Mr. Utulu for a second bookable offence.
